About The Grape Store

Wine is our passion. We’re proud to stock a wide range of top-quality wines from producers who specialise in sustainable, organic, biodynamic and natural wines.

We champion wines from winemakers who make individual hand crafted wines and not branded, industrially produced examples of mediocrity.

These growers work with their environment. Their methods include the use of wild yeasts, natural winemaking techniques, sustainable, organic or biodynamic viticulture.

Put simply, whatever your preference, the one recurring theme which sets a great wine apart from an average one, is without doubt, attention to detail in the vineyard and in the winery.

Unfortunately, as as a result of our desire for convenience, more than 75% of all the wines we drink are bought from our local supermarket. This in turn has led to a significant decrease in quality and thus detrimental to the enjoyment we experience as consumers.

Here at the Grape Store, we want people to know that there is an alternative to the mass marketed brands we are so used to seeing on the supermarket shelves. Our aim is to champion smaller growers and vineyards who value quality and enjoy drinking their wine as much as we do.

Our wines are fairly priced and you will not be misled by 3 for 2, buy one get one free or supposedly half price deals that are destined to disappoint!

Having got the wine bug, I decided to embark on a series of wine qualifications with the help of the WSET [Wine & Spirit Education Trust]. I thouroughly enjoyed the journey of some 5 years and continue to learn more about wine each day. I have completed the Intermediate, Advanced and the Diploma qualifications as a result of my love and enthusiasm for wine.

I would not proclaim myself an expert, but each time I drink a glass of wine I yearn to learn a little more and maybe make a new discovery!

The more you learn about wine, the more fascinating the subject becomes. There is truly nothing better than discovering a new wine, a new grape variety or an inspirational winemaker.

Feel free to join in with that discovery with some wines from The Grape Store and when you are buying wine elsewhere, please consider this………….

The next time you are pushing your trolley down the supermarket isle, remember it’s better to drink less but drink better!

If you really have not got the time to wait a day or two for delivery from us, then please support your local independent merchant, they will be happy to see you and I have yet to meet one who doesn’t like talking about wine!

Cheers

John Lees AIWS.
