Few properties in Tuscany are as immaculately tended, or produce such meticulously made wines, as Fontodi. The Manetti family has owned the estate since 1968 and Giovanni Manetti has run the property since 1980.  A new cellar was installed for the 1998 vintage. Giovanni’s 80 hectares of vineyard, 90% of which are Sangiovese, are situated in the prime “conca d’oro {golden shell} of Panzano, giving wines of supreme elegance, intensity and longevity. The south facing vineyards and their natural amphitheatre shape allow the grapes to ripen fully. Soils here allow for excellent drainage, encouraging the vines to put down deep roots. Giovanni has converted to organic viticulture over the past six years and is now following biodynamic principles in order to obtain the best quality fruit.

TASTING NOTES
The 2010 vintage in Tuscany was one of the greats and Giovanni’s 2010 Chianti Classico shows great depth of flavour, blackberry and dark plum aromas follow through to a full body, with silky tannins and a bright, fruity finish. An excellent marriage of bright fruit, body and clean acidity from one of the top producers in Tuscany.

REVIEWS & AWARDS

It is hard to express just how much I admire this estate and its wines.  Organically farmed and more ecologically aware than legions of wineries around the world, let alone in Tuscany, Giovanni Manetti’s beloved Fontodi consists of 80 hectares of pristine vineyards and they are situated in the prime ‘conca d’oro’ of Panzano.  This 2010 vintage is the finest I can remember in 25 years of following this estate and I urge you to buy it …  This is model Chianti – regal, layered, brooding and composed.  The aroma alone transports me to the vineyards in a moment.  This wine has a decade ahead of it but you must secure your stock today.  It is the finest £20 Tuscan red on the shelves this season.  Matthew Jukes, Money Week 03/10/2014.
