This wine is the younger version of the Carmignano, made with the same grapes (Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon) and the addition of Canaiolo.
It is named after the historic Medici Royal property known as the Barco reale, enclosed by a boundary wall which was over 30 miles in length.  Fermentation lasted seven days in temperature-controlled vats. Maceration took place in stainless steel tanks and lasted for seven days. The wine was matured in 25 hectolitre Allier oak barrels for 12 months before bottling, followed by three months in bottle before release. Excellent value.

TASTING NOTES
Good depth of ruby red colour, with intense, fruity perfumes of cherry and plum, given an extra dimension by a touch of oak. On the palate, it is rounded and ripe, with a lovely balanced fruit and tannin structure, and a long, elegant finish with a hint of spiced dark berry fruit.

REVIEWS & AWARDS
“A wine of finesse and elegance. Cherry, liquorice and spice flavours, with a saline element, combine seamlessly with the medium bodied frame and firm structure. The savoury note continues on the lingering finish. Drink now through to 2020. 92/100.” – Bruce Sanderson – Wine Spectator
