Winemaker Sandro Mosele has developed a reputation for some of the finest representations of Australian Pinot and Chardonnay. The Kooyong vineyard is split into five individual parcels with a variety of clones planted on some very different soils, and everything is done to enhance and express the natural characteristics of each parcel. The Haven vineyard is sheltered by trees, and it seems fitting that the wine is softer, more approachable and more inviting as a result.
100% destemmed and fermented in open vats without inoculation. Matured for 18 months in French oak (30% new). Haven is a lovable wine, always fleshy and forward on release, though it packs some deceptive structure behind the charm.
Deep ruby red. Cherry and plum fruits on the nose. The oak adds further structure to the wine. The palate is silky yet tight, focused and very intense with brooding cherry and plum flavours and pronounced mushroom character. Brown spice and star anise work superbly on exit. The tannins are soft yet substantial and the wine is beautifully balanced.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“Showing savoury, gamey notes to its plum and red cherry fruit with textured, slightly drying tannins. A wine for the cellar or to decant and enjoy with food. Very good.” – Sarah Ahmed – The Wine Detective
