In keeping with the Spinifex approach to hand crafting unique wines, the fruit for this wine was hand-picked from six low yielding Barossa vineyards, fermented in small batched, basket pressed and matured separately for 20 months in a selection of French oak. Strong fruit flavours, structure and balance will allow this wine to improve in the bottle for up to seven years.
Warm and inviting with attractive herbal notes adding another dimension to the pure red and black fruit characters. Deliciously fresh for such a rich wine.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
” I like this wine. A lot. In fact, of the 6000-odd wines I tasted for the Penguin Wine Guide this year, I awarded this the Wine of the Year. I also awarded Spinifex Winery of the Year in the same book. 96/100.” – Nick Stock – November 2008
“Pete Schell is the guy behind the Spinifex label. He is a quiet chap and a contemplative and very astute winemaker. He set up Spinifex in 2001 with the idea of making truly great wines from some of the oldest vines in the Barossa Valley. My favourite of his current releases is ’06 Esprit – a 34% Mataro (Mourvedre), 31% Grenache, 30% Shiraz, 5% Cinsault blend, which conjures up bonfire nuances, well hung game and masses of macerated, oozing black berries and plums.” – Matthew Jukes
