An iron fist in a velvet glove, this is Hartenberg’s flagship red. The Gravel Hill terroir, a specific vineyard block located on the lower northern slope of the estate, consistently produces Shiraz that is unique in character, quality and expression. The combination of red ferrous stone pebbles and the finely grained clay sub soil, creates unique characteristics that set this organic Shiraz apart from all others.
A dark centred, black-red and ruby rim with outspoken black fruit, violets, cloves, smokiness and black pepper on the bouquet. An elegant palate of sweet ripe fruit, spicy oak, and rich tannins ends with a lingering, savoury finish. A superb expression of Carl Schultz’s towering abilities. Pair with beef fillet with a subtle truffle sauce, rosemary lamb pie or mushroom risotto. 19 months in 100% New French oak.
