An ancient variety grown near Alba in Piemonte recently saved from extinction by a few notable Barolo producers such as Bruno Giacoso, Arneis is sometimes referred to as Barolo Bianco although never labelled as such. Winemakers across the world have been experimenting with this grape some with notable success, especially Mac Forbes in the Yarra valley, Australia.
