Shaw and Smith

Shaw and Smith, Pinot Noir 2008

This is only the second release of the Pinot Noir and the first to be launched beyond their cellar door, even though the grapes were planted in 2000. Before 2007, the Pinot Noir was sold off for sparkling base wines as the cousins patiently waited for the vines to produce wines of greater concentration with vine maturity. Michael explained that they are chasing “Central Otago opulence with the structure of Burgundy… juicy fruit with tannin structure”.

TASTING NOTES
This wine is aromatic, with perfumes of ripe cherries, raspberries and strawberries. On the palate it is medium bodied yet surprisingly supple and rich with a clean, pure fruit character, good structure and a long elegant finish.

REVIEWS & AWARDS
“Lovely elegant nose with smooth, sweet sappy fruit. The palate is smooth textured with lovely cherry fruit and gentle herbiness. Light on its feet: elegant and quite delicate but with sweet fruit and a hint of richness. 92/100.” – wineanorak.com
