The Chianti Rufina DOCG is home of Colognole Chianti Rufina. It is the smallest region in Chianti. Accounting for just 3% of total Chianti production. It is also at a higher altitude than the rest of the region. An altitude of over 500m above sea level. This allows the grapes to grow in cool, moist yet characteristically mediterranean conditions. The diurnal variation is the greatest in Chianti. Cool mountain winds blow across the region at night.
The Colognole Chianti represents incredible value for money and comes into own when paired with an array of classic dishes. The wine has an alluring complexity married to a superb balancing acidity.
The wine is characterised by cherry fruit on the nose. The palate concentrates on darker fruits with light spices and a rustic earthy flavour. Velvety tannins add to this wines smoothness whilst it also has the quality to age gracefully. Drink now or cellar for 8-10 years.

The soils in the region are predominantly limestone and clay. The clay has an ability to retain water. The limestone adds to the wines mineralisation. The climate is humid, yet cool in the evening. This combination ensures that drought is never a problem. Healthy grapes are produced all year round. Creating this fine and distinctive wine.
