Category: 13% ABV, Biodynamic, Cabernet Franc, Catherine & Pierre Breton, France, Loire Valley, Natural
One of the most dynamic estates in the region, Catherine and Pierre Breton practice organic/biodynamic viticulture based on a philosophy that stems from a love of the land.
Use of indigenous yeasts and a minimal (sometimes zero) use of sulphites results in natural winemaking at its best.
This Chinon is made from several parcels on clay and limestone hillside soils. The vinification and élevage takes place in wooden vats and barriques. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered after one year in wood, in the early Autumn before harvest.
TASTING NOTES
A beautiful ruby colour, plenty of violets on the nose and is lush, tender and silky on the palate with black cherry, currant and pomegranate with earthy notes, nice herbaceousness and minerality bringing up the rear of this natural wine.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“Those in possession of a little Loire knowledge will know that Breton is of course a local synonym for Cabernet Franc, and so it seems fitting that one of the region’s most dynamic estates should be run by a couple who also bear the name. The Bretons happen to produce some of the most interesting wines of the Loire Valley, using some of the most painstaking and dedicated methods.” – The Wine Doctor
