An acclaimed family producer whose wines exhibit the complexity of their vineyard in Chavignol, being chalky with a touch of gunflint, initially steely, then ripening in the mouth with a broad array of flavours and wonderful length. The M.D. is from grapes harvested on the Monts Damnes slopes, so steep that they are called ‘cursed’. A grace and flavour wine that will age gracefully. Since the eleventh century nobleman would try to outbid each other just to possess a small parcel of this prized land.
“Somewhat reductive on the nose, but the palate reveals superb concentration of layered fruit, bold and potent but with precise balance, very long.” – 4 stars (18/20) – Decanter.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“I have great admiration for this remarkable and dynamic family. Over the past 52 years Jean-Marie Bourgeois has played a huge role in making them Sancerre’s largest producers. They now have 70ha of vines plus an extensive negotiant business producing around one million bottles a year. Despite their size they have been able to maintain their high quality which runs right through the range. The refined and minerally MD is a particular favourite of mine, especially with some bottle age.” – Jim Budd – Wine Travel Guides
