Laibach Vineyards is situated on the slopes of the Simonberg, one of the prime red grape growing regions of South Africa. The estate dates back to 1818 and was originally known as ‘Good Success’ under the ownership of Dutchman, Daniel Johannes van Ryneveld. In 1994 it was purchased by the Laibach family.
The grapes for this particular Pinotage come from ten year-old bush vines. Picking is carried out early in the morning and the juice is pumped into open fermentation tanks where it remains for 7 days before being transferred to French oak barrels to continue fermentation and ageing for a further 15 months. A great organic wine.
TASTING NOTES
A deep ruby-red in hue. Aromas of banana, lavender and red berries. The palate is balanced and the tannins beautifully integrated. The finish is complex and lengthy with toasty oak notes and hints of red cherry. Wonderful now but will only improve over the next 4-8 years.
