This organic, biodynamic wine uses fruit carefully selected from vineyards situated near Balnaring in the Yarra Valley, located on red volcanic soil on the east side of Red Hill. The vineyard is sheltered, so the grapes ripen a bit earlier. The grapes were de-stemmed and naturally soaked before fermentation began naturally in open top wooden fermenters. The wine was not plunged until dryness to avoid extraction of bitter tannins.
Loads of red fruit reminiscent of a summer pudding, followed by a pomegranate and juniper nose. Floral notes include bergamot and lily of the valley. The palate brings a rush of red fruit with a little porcini mushroom and black tea. The palate is complex and long with real intensity.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“Pale ruby with lovely bright cherry on nose and palate, complex by a cool tang of clay/wet earth. A savoury, leesy quality adds texture to the fruit while a fine spine of tannins enhances length, precision and persistence. Lovely, broachable even.” – The Wine Detective, September 2010
