Rolly-Gassmann is a biodynamic wine producer with a unique style. The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition, and all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann; a certain shameless, velvety sweetness. The fruit is rich, and Rolly-Gassmann manages to balance the fruit with a vibrant acidity to form seductive wines that melt on the palate.
Pierre Gassman, champion of biodynamic cultivation in Alsace, insists on late harvesting and lengthy cellaring after bottling, creating amply sweet yet balanced styles. In-depth knowledge of his domaine (a complex mosaic of limestone and marls, created when two Alsace families united at the altar) and pursuit of low yields promote precise expression of different ‘terroirs’.
Aromas of flowers, toffee apple, peach, apricot and orange, a whiff of wet slate and background notes of cinnamon and spice on the nose. The palate doesn’t disappoint, offering a depth of flavour and richness, which is also fresh and vibrant. The spiced citrus, tree fruit and mineral flavours are matched blow-for-blow by a toffee and marmalade-like intensity, all of which lingers for an age on the palate.
