This wine is a benchmark Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, showing all the depth, richness, complexity and well-integrated oak that one would expect in a wine of this quality.
Balnaves’ 35 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are split up into sub blocks (some only 1 hectare in area), on the basis of soil type, clone variation, trellis type etc. This enables Balnaves to program different treatments for these smaller areas. Supplementary water can be supplied using a central computer system, but at least one third of the vineyard has not been watered for five years. The vines are trained on a single wire.
Red/black in colour, the nose is intense, with aromas of dark fruit, ripe blackcurrant, tar, spice and leather, with subtle vanillan oak. On the palate, the wine is powerful and long with firm tannins and balanced fruit.
