Chateau du Coing is one of three production sites owned by Veronica Günther Chéreau. The vigneron has a passion for creating a Muscadet that reflects the terroir and the knowledge of winemaking that has been passed down the family through generations. The estate is over 70 hectares and is mostly organic. Sustainable practices allow key natural assets to be reflected in the flavour of the wine. Where organic viviculture is not possible Lutte raisonnee is practiced. The vineyards sit on gabbro, schist and shale soil. The family values ecological diversity and understands the need to find harmony between this and the quality of grape produced.
Good Muscadet will age well for at least a decade and as such examples such as this represent excellent value.
TASTING NOTES
The wine is very pale lemon in colour with golden hints. There are aromas of citrus fruits and apple as well as an underlying nuttiness. Aged on its lees over the winter after harvest the process adds freshness and a complexity to the wines structure. The metamorphic nature of the soil is expressed in the wines minerality. This is a lively, dry and fruity white wine with a clean lasting finish. The time spent on lees brings complex toasty aromas and adds richness to the palate.
