Winemaker Sandro Mosele has crafted a reputation for some of the finest representations of Australian Pinot and Chardonnay. The vineyard is split into five individual parcels with a variety of clones planted on some very different soils, and everything is done to enhance and express the natural characteristics of each parcel.
The vineyard name, ‘Meres’, originates from the surrounding water bodies. Its greater exposure to the north, west and east limits the vigour of the vines, while the sandier soil reduces water stress compared to the Ferrous and Haven vineyards. The wine is silken, perfumed and approachable when young, as well as having flavour concentration and ageing potential.
100% destemmed and fermented in open vats without inoculation. Matured for 18 months in French oak (30% new). Kooyong is a ‘domain’ in the true sense of the word and the wines are made from 100% estate grown fruit at its own on-site winery.
Luscious aroma of cherries and rosehips, tinged with exotic lilies and alluring spice. Slight anise/leather character. Silky-soft, light texture yet complete and absolutely the way it should be. With bright acidity and very gentle tannin, this possesses the ethereal combination of lightness and freshness with substantial intensity of flavour.
