Ramon Bilbao have vineyards in Rioja, La Mancha, Galicia, Ribero del Duero, Rueda and Navarra and is one of the most talked about Spanish producers, understandably so in our opinion!
Established in 1924 by Ramon Bilbao Murga, a prominent wine trader of his time, today the Bodegas is at the forefront of winemaking in Rioja. Situated in Haro in the Rioja Alta, on the banks of the River Ebro, the Bodegas owns some 75 hectares of the best vineyards of the region. Winemaker Santos Calahorra makes wine with a modern style and together with the up to date packaging, the wines have received much acclaim in the press and they were voted Winery of the Year in 2009.
Made from 100% Tempranillo from a carefully selected grapes from vineyards in Haro and surrounding areas it’s harvested during the second week in October. After fermentation the wine was aged for 14 months in American oak casks. This was followed by another 8 months in the underground bottle cellars.
Bright, deep, cherry-red, intense aromas of ripe black berries, spice and chocolate to the fore, it has a fresh and vibrant palate with rich dark fruit, sweet cinnamon spice and a wonderfully juicy finish.
