Tahbilk has a priceless inheritance stretching back to 1860 and is one of Australia’s most beautiful and historic wineries. Located in the Nagambie lakes region of central Victoria, one of the nation’s premium viticultural areas. Vineyard plantings extend back to Tahbilk’s founding with pre-phylloxera vines still surviving from 1860. This Cabernet has a stylish medium-weight palate, which reveals good balance and structure along with lovely sweet ripe fruit flavours, leafy freshness and soft tannins that persist.
It has a perfumed nose with some floral, violet aromas, along with blackcurrant, earth, and well integrated oak. On the front palate there is some nice sweet fruit, but from there it’s all savoury. It’s long and nicely balanced, with hints of mint and salt, and a dry finish of some nice sour and bitter flavours. The tannins are a superb element to this wine.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“Tahbilk Cabernet has been on a roll of late but this release is fabulous. The Tahbilk Estate is now 150 years old – and stronger than ever.” – Campbell Mattinson – The Big Red Wine Book
“Deep, dark and tight-fisted, with layers of brooding Cassis and plum-like fruit wrapped around a strongly built, drying spine. It’s actually quite perfumed, with sweet scents of cassis, violets, chocolate and cedar backed by a hint of cola. Long, robust and linear, it’s a true cellaring style.” – Jeremy Oliver
