Domaine Jean Foillard is located outside the village of Ville-Morgon within the Beaujolais appellation. Jean and his wife Agnes started making wine from the estates 11 hectares of vines in 1982. The estate uses traditional and organic methods. Jean follows the teachings of Jules Chauvet. Jules was the inspiration behind the natural wine movement; a chemist and friend of the famous German scientist Otto Warburg. Jean and three other vignerons in the Beaujolais region formed what was locally known as the ‘Gang of Four’. The wines are characterised by the absence of any filtering or use of Sulphur Dioxide during vinification
This Morgon is made from 100% Gamay, the wine has a rich ruby red colour with aromas of blackberries to the fore. Spicy undertones and a full fruit freshness invigorate the palate. The tannins are complex; the maturation of the wine on its lees gives it a satin and silky structure. The natural methods of vinification allow for a traditionally rustic wine with a strong sense of minerality. Domaine Jean Foillard Morgon ‘Classique’ is a must for the individual seeking the true quality associated with artisinal natural, organic wine making.
