Trinchero is a Piemonte estate run by brothers Renato & Ezio Trinchera, they produce wonderful wines from low yielding vines where minimal intervention is key along with natural fermentation.
It was in the early 1920’s that brothers Secondo and Serafino bought this estate, now run by their descendants Renato and Ezio. Many of the vines date back to the fabulous brothers and all are now lovingly, organically farmed. They were the very first winery in Asti to begin bottling their wine themselves instead of sending it off to be blended and sold in bulk, and if you scrutinize the bottle very carefully, you will find the number 1 displayed with pride.
This is seriously good Barbera; in fact, it’s as good as it gets. Treated with the same meticulous care as a top Barolo it too has great ageing ability. It is a wine of great refinement which is deliciously easy to drink and a superb food partner, the restrained red fruit and earthy, mineral spice with polished edge seeming to cope admirably with just about everything. Decanting does it no harm at all.
Good with anything from cold meats to richer stews and both white and red meat.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“Vigna del Noce is the flagship wine of the estate sourced from an eighty-year-old plot of vines. It undergoes a 45-day maceration on the skins, enjoys a leisurely fermentation in 50-hl Slavonian oak barrels and is aged for a further minimum of 2-3 years in large bottle.”
