Prosecco is a white wine grape also known as Glera which is almost entirely used in the production of sparkling wine. It is primarily produced in the Italian regions of Veneto and Fruili Venezia Giulia. Prosecco is believed to be quite an ancient variety, and the name Prosecco was derived from the village bearing the same name in north Italy, where it may have originated. Prosecco wines have seen a rise in popularity in recent years as they are seen as a more affordable alternative to Champagne.
