Category: 14.8% ABV, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Lutte Raisonnee, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Simonsig, South Africa, Stellenbosch
Since French Huguenot Jacques Malan first set foot in the Cape Winelands in 1688 the Malan family of Simonsig, one of South Africa’s most reputable wine producers, has leaped to acclaimed heights in pioneering wine excellence.
This classic Bordeaux-style blend showcases a deep garnet centre with bright and youthful hues on the rim. A rich, perfumed bramble and red berry bouquet is enhanced by layers of mocha, sweet cinnamon sugar and vanilla spiciness. With more aeration the wine shows violet and delicious mulberry fruit.
A marvellous Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot
One of Simonsig’s flagship wines, it benefits from maturation of 20 months in French and American oak casks.
Under the £20.00 mark, this wine represents amazing value and will age a decade gracefully and some with consummate ease.
TASTING NOTES
Deep black cherry colour. Exploding vibrant fruit flavours of blackcurrants, cassis and violets and a touch of pencil shavings captures the intensity of the Tiara. Sweet vanilla and dark chocolate aromas reveal the spicy French oak contribution. Each individual cultivar adds to complexity creating a harmonious blend of pure enjoyment. The elegance and finesse of the Merlot uplifts the cedar, cigar box undertone of the Cabernet Sauvignon while the Petit Verdot adds colour and tightens the tannins. The perfumed fruit are enhanced by the gentle fragrance of the Cabernet franc.
