Catherine and Pierre Breton champion the cause for Biodynamic viticulture, which is no mean feat in the northerly climes of the Loire valley. Ultra organic care means they avoid chemical fertilisers and weed killers, restrict yields to 40-45 hl/ha and harvest by hand. The Bretons use indigenous yeasts and their desire for natural winemaking comes through strong in their resistance to the use of sulphur, with typically 10mg/l added at bottling to many cuvees, although some are bottled without sulphur at all, and they are all bottled unfiltered.
TASTING NOTES
“Delicate and summery, this hints at flavours of fresh apricot and orange citrus, enlivened by bright acidity. It feels clean and taut, inviting you to drink more.” – 90/100 – Wine and Spirit
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“This is a fizzy, Vouvray that is sealed with both a cork and a crowncap. It’s a lovely, rich, off-dry wine with some herb, lemon and straw notes. Fresh and fizzy with lovely tangy fruit, this is an ideal match for creamy cheeses. Unusual and delicious. 90/100.” – Les Caves de Pyrene
“The appeal of this wine is in the character of that sparkle. There is a frothiness to it that is ethereal, enabling the wine to float weightlessly on your palate. The bubbles are rustic, as if each bottle might have a different amount of sparkle. Underlying the sparkle is the classic dark mineral character the Breton’s so carefully coax out of their Vouvray.” – kermitlynch.com
