Attis

Sangarida, Mencia 2020

Attis was founded in 2000 by the Farina family, they own 12.3 acres of vineyards planted with Albarino vines ranging from 5 to 40 years. Robustiano Farina provides years of experience to support his sons Baldomero and Robustiano Jr. in their management of the vineyard, winery and business operations. In 2011, they invested in a new, modern winery and hired Jean-Francois Hebrard for technical advice and ecological cultivation in the vineyards. These initiatives came to fruition with the 2012 vintage, encompassing all aspect of winemaking; spontaneous fermentation, ageing on the lees and a reduction in their use of sulphur.

TASTING NOTES

The name Sangarida comes from Greek mythology; Attis was the mythical consort of the Great Mother of the Gods, Cibeles. Attis had vowed to be celibate forever in order to serve Cibeles, however he met a nymph called Sangarida, fell in love and broke his oath. Both Attis and Sangarida were punished but Cibeles resurrected Attis turning him into a pine tree as a symbol of the great mother nature. Made from 100% Mencia, a low-yielding native grape variety from plots over 50 years old on the slopes of the Montes Aquilianos. Mencia is characterised by its freshness, red fruits balanced by mineral notes and acidity.
