Category: 14% ABV, Franschhoek, Organic, Pinot Noir, Pinotage, South Africa
This is no ordinary Pinotage; made in more of an Italian Ripasso style, by combining fresh wine with fermenting, air-dried grapes, this is a rich, full-bodied Pinotage with exceptional grace and flavour!
Winemaker Gottfried Mocke takes top quality Pinotage grapes and ferments at cool temperatures, preserving the bright, red spicy fruits. He then adds partially dried grapes for a second fermentation for 15 days on the skins. The finished wine is then aged for 2 years in 228l French oak barrels with 40% new oak.
TASTING NOTES
The Grewacke Pinotage has a deep garnet red colour with tinges of dark violet when young. The bouquet is complex with scents recalling wild berries, spices and cherries. On the palate, this organic wine shows full body and rich dark chocolate bitles extract with fruit flavours balanced elegantly by tannins in a long finish that reveals a sweetness reminiscent of liquorice.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“Sweet, pure berry fruits with a fresh, tangy edge. Nicely expressive and pure with lovely fruit. A Pinotage I like!” – 90/100 – wineanorak.com
