Category: 13.5% ABV, France, Grenache Noir, Mourgues de Gres, Mourvedre, Organic, Rhone - Costieres de Nimes, Syrah
Chateau Mourgues du Gres is owned by former journalist Francois Collard and is to be found at Beaucare in the appellation of the Costieres de Nimes on the border of Languedoc and Provence. There are 40 hectares of vines in total producing arguably the best organic wines in the region. This particular rose is a full bodied combination of Syrah and Grenache and can be drunk all year round but is particularly good as a summer aperitif or with weightier seafood dishes.
The motto of the estate, taken from an old sundial outside the house, is ‘sine sole nihil’ (nothing without sun). The sun is definitely represented in the organic wines of Morgues du Gres. Plump, soft red fruits, rich and warming.
TASTING NOTES
This wine is a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre displaying a deep red colour. Showing good fruit character with oriental spices and deep ripe fruit flavours this well made red wine can be savoured through to the enjoyable finish.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“There is no mistaking the sweet, soft round ripe fruit of the Grenache grape here. The nose has an earthy barnyard edge from the mourvedre and there is plenty of spice and alcohol to grab your attention. Expect a rich glossy palate with sweet fruit and peppery notes throughout. Try this with any big lamb or beef dishes. Good value. 89/100.” – Gismondi on Wine
