The Marchionni family moved Rustano near Castelraimondo in the 1960s, and purchased the small hamlet of Collestefano. In 1998, Fabio, the son of Benedetto and Anna, graduated in Oenology and, fresh from experiencing wine production and trade in a German wine shop, bottled the first vintage of Verdicchio di Matelica.
CLIMATE
The Camerino valley, where Colle Stefano is situated is the only valley in the region which is not open to the sea and as a result the only one with a temperate climate. TERROIR: 450 metres above sea level, a mixture of sand, loam, and clay, rich in limestone.
VITICULTURE
Double arched traditional/Guyot mono and bilateral
VINIFICATION
• Manual harvested
• On the lees for 4 months in small stainless steel tanks
• Soft pressing
• Fermentation at low temperature
• Aged in stainless steel tank and bottle
• No malolactic fermentation
TASTING NOTE
Bright straw yellow colour with greenish shades, the wine has vegetal notes of ginger and cardamom and a fruity bouquet with unripe nectarine. The palate combines the typical sparkling crispness of Collestefano and a rich fruity allure. Long-lasting and nuanced finish with a touch of ginger and sweet almond.
