Category: 12.5% ABV, Domaine Frantz Saumon, France, Loire Valley, Organic, Sauvignon Blanc
Frantz Saumon began wine making after leaving a career in forestry management. Domaine Frantz Saumon was established in 2001 and now covers 6 hectares of the Loire Valley. The viticulture is organic and the terroir is dominated by the Huisseau Plateau. All the wines are handpicked and the grapes sorted on tables prior to maceration. The vineyards soil is a mix of sandy clay, limestone and flint. Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc cover 5.5 hectares, the rest is used for the cultivation of red grapes. The estate is situated within the Mountlouis sur Loire appellation. The winery is located in a cave carved into the tuffeau.
The wine is fermented in barrel and only indigenous yeasts are used, the wine is also unfiltered, all this lends to it’s natural complexity and verve.
