The Petrera family ensures the greatest care in every detail with the creation of this wine: organic farming, grape selection, processing and bottling. The family processes only their own estate grown grapes under the brand name “Fatalone”, with total production of 40,000 bottles per 6 hectares of vineyards.
The Primitivo vine is so named because of its tendency towards early ripening compared to other grapes in the region. One of its idiosyncrasies is the secondary budding, which is known for being incredibly fruitful. In fact, it is the only vine all over the Mediterranean area to supply a secondary vintage: these ‘racemi’ are not as full-bodied but have more sweet-smelling berries.
TASTING NOTES
This is a big wine, rich and concentrated with that fantastic warm southern feel that typifies Primitvo. It has sweet tobacco scents and flavours of sour black cherry, plum and toffee. A smooth, warm, balanced red it finishes on an aftertaste of toasted almond. It is perfect for tasty lamb cooked slowly with rosemary and gravy made from Primitivo!
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“Wild, quite volatile nose with raspberry and plum fruit, dusty hay bales, sweet pipe smoke and a rustic, barnyardy side. On the palate a rush of sweet red fruit and sour cherry, followed by a savoury, earthy streak with quite fine tannins and sharp, pretty rasping acidity.” – Tomhewson.com
