Category: 13.5% ABV, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cape Chamonix, Franschhoek, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, South Africa
Chamonix’s entry level red is a South African take on the classic Bordeaux style blend and is marvellous value for money as the same exacting standards are used to make this wine as they are throughout the range. It is made up of 30% Cabernet sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 25% Malbec and 10% Petite Verdot.
The wine is well structured; full, round and smooth on the palate with rich fruit and length of flavour. An elegant wine that will continue to evolve with time in the bottle. This wine continues to be consistently excellent each vintage and really is great value.
Grapes are de-stemmed and soft-crushed and the must fermented in stainless steel tanks at 25-30° C for two weeks on the skins with frequent pumping over the cap. After malolactic fermentation, the wine of 14.0% alcohol is matured for 18 months in older French oak barrels.
Style and maturity: The Rouge shows a deep ruby colour with garnet highlights on the rim. The generous bouquet suggests blackcurrant, cedar with scents reminiscent of red berries, spices and vanilla. The wine is amply structured; full, round and smooth on the palate with rich fruit and length of flavour. An elegant wine that can mature with time in the bottle.
