Category: 13% ABV, Chamonix, Chardonnay, Organic, South Africa
Excellent Chardonnay is synonymous with Cape Chamonix who are consistently winning awards for both their red and white wines and lets not forget the sublime Blancs de Blancs sparkling which is also 100% Chardonnay.
This wine doesn’t have as much oak ageing as the reserve version, but has 11 months on its fine lees, giving a rich textured palate without the butteriness of the new oak. The resulting wine is South Africa’s answer to Pouilly Fuisse.
TASTING NOTES
A light golden colour with a slight green hue defines the colour. The nose offers up notes of vanilla, an ever so slight hint of butter scotch and marzipan and then lifted citrus fruit aromatically. Medium to medium fuller bodied, the palate plays a nice balanced tension between the wines light creamy note and the racier citrus fruit running through. Juicy with clean citrus notes and just the right amount of creaminess makes this a great food wine as well as something to enjoy on its own.
REVIEWS & AWARDS
“A fresh style, featuring a tangy core of nectarine and yellow apple. Framed by judicious toast, salted butter and slivered almond notes. Shows good definition on the finish. Drink now but will age. 1,000 cases made. 89 points.” – James Molesworth – Wine Spectator.
