Heirloom Vineyards

Heirloom Vineyards, Barossa Shiraz 2017

Heirloom Vineyards is a venture of Zar and Elena Brooks, 'the lofty aim of which is to preserve the best of tradition, the old world of wine, the unique old vineyards of South Australia and to champion the best clones of each variety, embracing the principals of organic and biodynamic farming' - James Halliday 2011. Halliday named Heirloom as one of the best new vineyards in Australia in 2011, saying the quality of the new wines is outstanding. Seven long vintages of trial and error have passed before Heirloom Vineyards were satisfied they had made a wine fine enough to pass on to future generations.

VINEYARDS

The Shiraz grapes come from an old vineyard in the Barossa. Many vines are over 100 years of age, a number of which are still on their original rootstock.

VINIFICATION

Whole bunches were hand picked and sorted prior to undergoing natural fermentation in open top fermenters. This was then followed by gentle basket pressing into first use French oak barriques for maturation.

TASTING NOTES

This wine is intense purple in colour with youthful highlights. There is a remarkable concentration of spicy black fruits on the nose with a subtle background of balsamic and allspice. The palate is soft and structured with velvety tannins. The finish is long and lingering with dark chocolate notes.
