Olivier Cousin, Pur Breton 2021

A O C: Aimer Observer Cultiver (“Love, Observe, Cultivate”). Olivier is a natural vigneron. He promotes the use of animal traction and transport by sail. His 7 hectare family farm, made up of cabernet franc (4 ha), grolleau (2 ha) & gamay (1 ha), is cultivated using biodynamics and is worked by 3 plough horse. Wines are vinified without additives or manipulation.

He cultivates his vines in and around Martigne Briand, which is nestled in the western end of the Loire Valley,

The Pur Breton is 100% Cabernet Franc and is a wonderfully expressive natural wine having been allowed to ferment spontaneously it’s left to it’s own devices whilst being reared in stainless steel tank. No filtration or added sulphites here!

Oliver Cousin is constantly experimenting to improve the quality of his wines and they often undergo an extended maceration, which adds greater character to the final wine.

TASTING NOTES
A mouthful of juicy cherry, ripe plums, red apple core and chalk tones with a secondary naughty whiff of mushroom and undergrowth. Crushed strawberries mixed with invigoratingly fresh bing cherry and red apple explode on the palate, simply delicious!

REVIEWS & AWARDS
“This manages to have very ‘natural’ style fruit while also coming across as quite typical. It is light and refreshing, alive, pairs easily with whatever is on your plate, and goes down extremely easy. Sometimes, there isn’t much more I want from a bottle of wine. The light-heartedness of this wine makes it profound, somehow.” – Cellar Tracker.
