Category: 13% ABV, Chateau Morgue Du Gres, France, Grenache Noir, Organic, Rhone - Costieres de Nimes, Roussanne, Vermentino
Francois and Anne Collard, owners of the domain, quickly reached the top of the appellation. In a few years they have a become a reference point for quality. Chateau Mourgues Du Gres is located on exceptional pebbles (the gress) based on clay and limestone marl coming from a glacial moraine that was deposited along the Rhone river.
Les Galet Dores is derived from young vines and is largely Grenache based with a compliment of Rousanne, Vermentino and sometimes Clairette.
The northern exposure of this terroir provides a cooler environment for the vines and inflects the harsher extremes of the Mediterranean summer. This northern site also lends a substantial vivacity to the wines, which is guarded throughout its winemaking process by a rigorous temperature control preserving all of its natural fruit and freshness.
TASTING NOTES
The motto of the estate, taken from an old sundial outside the house, is ‘sine sole nihil’ (nothing without sun). The sun is definitely in these wines.
Pale gold in appearance with a youthful expression, a complex wine on the palate with floral notes and notes of citrus fruit as well as some white stone fruits, balanced acidity medium plus body with a mineral finish and the finish is long. The recommend served chilled as an aperitif, or serve with some grilled fish or seafood, or white meat.
